It's not easy to scape from tradition when there's a lack of money and time, so when Holy Week starts in Málaga you are well awared of that. Even if I decide to shut myself at home, I will see a procession from the balcony. That is how I realized that an authentic Spanish scene is more modern than ever: the mantilla is trendy as lace is this season. And we can go further. What makes the outfit complete is a timeless 'little black dress' that you can see in all variations as they are usually made to measure and also dresses in lace are very typical. The effect must be elegant and sober as they are wearing mourning, though there is sometimes an exception which always sets people talking.
But what I really love is the essential accessory of a mantilla: the ornamental comb make of tortoiseshell. I have two little ones in white that I have never worn. Maybe I can use them to keep up the tradition my way.
